Parallel bars — the pattern vision science measures acuity with, which is exactly why it is here. Stripes are the least ambiguous test of whether a design is coarse enough to be seen at the distance you chose: if the bars blur into grey, the card is too fine for that distance.

How this pattern behaves when the distance asks for more than a sheet

Past a certain distance the design the tool wants is wider than the paper. This family crops: the sheet shows the middle of a bigger design, at true size. Every bar, ring or disc keeps exactly the width the distance asks for — a repeating pattern reads the same whether you can see all of it or part of it — which is why stripescards appear at every distance in this catalogue.
